Whether you’re ready to embrace winter or you’re still hanging onto the hope that you can keep wearing your flip flops, we’re loving fall in Edmonton. Our River Valley is a true asset in our community and these days it’s even more beautiful with the falling colourful leaves and the crisp air teasing our lungs as we take Ben for walks on the trails.

To fully embrace the season, we’re sharing our favourite tips on how you can prepare your family and your home for the snowy season ahead.

  1. Prep your vehicles. Give your favourite mechanic a call and get your home-away-from-home winterized and set up with your winter tires. Don’t forget to throw your snowbrush in your vehicle! It’s a great idea to store an extra pair of mitts, scarf and a toque in your car as well.
  1. Change it all. As we fall back, don’t forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors. While you’re at it, make sure your carbon monoxide detector hasn’t expired and change the filters in your furnace if needed.
  1. Store it with care. Take a Saturday to clean your summer fun, furniture and accessories and store them with care. Trust us, when the snow is here to stay, you’ll be happy that you took care of this ahead of time. A little prep work will keep your tools and summer entertainment well maintained for years.
  1. Transition time. Just like we all feel like our home is refreshed after a spring clean, a fall clean sets us up for success for fall and winter. After you cleaning inside and out, you’ll feel more content to haul out your favourite winter clothing and accessories and put those tank tops and flip flops into storage.
